New Student Council Gets to Work

Every year in the spring a new student council is elected at Springville Junior High. The new student council officially started their job helping out the school on January 14th, the start of the second semester. The student council will be helping out the school for the rest of the school year. We would like to welcome the new student council. Bailey Bird is the president. Kyle Paynter, Ciarra Snapp, and Roxie Chambers are all vice presidents.

In order to be on student council, the students go through an election process. Mr. Mikesell, dean of students at SJHS, said, “Interested students have to attend an informational meeting the week before spring break.” The candidates then run their  campaign, which could include videos, posters, and a speech. After some campaigning, an election takes place to decide the winning candidates who get the honor of being on the student council.

Ciarra Snapp, a vice president on the student council, said she likes being on the council because “I like that I can be a person to help.”  Mrs. Murray, the student council advisor, said, “Student council helps with various activities in the school like dances, changing the [marquee] outside, setting up signs for fire drills, doing the morning announcements, helping with each month’s virtues, conducting super knight assemblies, and so much more!” According to Mr. Mikesell, the student council “are great examples of students being leaders.” The council sends a positive influence to the students at the junior high and helps out the school along the way.
