September Super Knights

On October 7th, six Springville Junior High School students named were called up on stage during an assembly to receive an award for being great students.  Mason Merrill and Miriam Burrell, ninth-grade students, Sarah Rawle and Oakley Call, eighth-grade students, and Lela Packard and Jake Rowland, seventh-grade students were named “Super Knights.”

The Super Knights are chosen by teachers at SJHS.  Mr. Trent Mikesell, an administrative assistant, sends an email to all of the teachers to nominate students to be a Super Knight. The teachers then have to choose one girl and one boy in each of the grades. Then they all vote and narrow it down to the final two students in each grade. Most of the teachers say that it was hard to choose. Ms. Kiera Beddes, English and history teacher, said, “It is difficult to choose. Springville Junior High has an awesome student body filled with wonderful people, each who are trying their best. I think it's excellent that the decision is so hard. I would much rather have too many good choices to choose from than to not have enough.”

The assembly was not only about the Super Knights, but it also had some talent acts. KodiAnn Duvall did a dance solo to “Someone Like You“ By Adele and the Mastersingers choir sang songs like “Are you going to Scarborough fair?”. Lela Packard said, “The assembly was fun not only because I got an award, but because of the talents.”

Mr. David Hansen, a history teacher at SJHS, said, “It’s not the award, it’s who we are. The Super Knights don’t try for the award they try to help themselves understand and other students as much as they can. They show who they are by doing their work, helping others, doing something amazing by helping out and keeping their stuff organized so it’s not a mess.” So if you want to be a Super Knight then you should follow these guidelines and you may just be the next Super Knight.
