Mrs. Adrienne Murray, the Service Learning teacher at Springville Junior High School, and her service learning walk to Brookside every Friday to work and play with some of the elementary students. Mrs. Murray said, “The service learning class has gone to Brookside on a regular basis. A few of the students have chosen to be in charge of going to the school as their semester service project.”

Sarah Emmett, eighth grader at SJHS, said, “For one hour on every Friday, our service learning class goes to Brookside and plays games with some of the kids.” One half of the students go to a third and fourth-grade Language Arts class to help them with their reading skills, while the other half goes to a second grade class to play math games with the students to help them learn and practice their math skills

According to Sarah Emmett, it is way fun because the kids are cute and sometimes a little bossy, but the junior high kids teach them games and they like to teach us games, so that’s good. Mrs. Murray said, “I hope the students will learn how important it is to serve others. It doesn’t take much effort but it can mean the world to the ones we serve. The kids at the elementary school absolutely love having the older kids come listen to them, play with them and serve them.”  The students in service learning they love going and playing with the kids.
