Sewing classes make fun projects with Mrs. Bird

Submitted by tiffanie.miley on

In eighth or ninth grade students have an option to take sewing. Students get to make tons of fun and helpful things such as pajama bottoms, a school bag, and an apron. Katya Fullmer, a eighth-grade student at SJHS, said, “I enjoy sewing a lot, and it’s one of my favorite classes.” Mrs. Diane Bird, the sewing teacher at SHJS, said, “Sewing is so fun and teaching it to kids is great, because it teaches them to do something with their hands.”

One of the best parts in sewing, according to Katya, is that you get to wear everything you make! Learning to sew is a good thing to learn to do. Mrs. Bird has her students learn to do a zipper by making a book bag, a pocket by doing an apron, and something that fits the student by doing Pajama bottoms. When students are done with that they get to make anything you wish.

Kids who are interested in sewing, Mrs. Bird would love to have you in her class! Mrs. Bird really enjoys teaching kids to sew.
