SJHS November Super Knight Assembly

On November 4, 2011, the students at SJHS attended an assembly for their Super Knights. During the assembly, a dance class performed and the 4H drama club performed for the rest of the student body. Mr. Ken Van Ausdal, SJHS principal, came up with the idea to give out Super Knight awards, and it started this year.

The Super Knight is an award for students who work hard and are respectful to other students, teachers, and themselves. Teachers nominate students to be Super Knights and then the students that have the most votes get to be a Super Knight. The students get to be recognized for a month and they get a trophy with a knight’s helmet on it. November’s Super Knights are ninth-grade students Peggy Sorensen and Andrew Gwilliam, eighth-grade students Alexandria Sorensen and Chase Kimball, and seventh-grade students Elise Willmore and Cortez Nelson.

During the assembly Caden Swendsen, ninth grader at SJHS, sang a song that he wrote called, “Hopeless Romance” while playing his guitar. He got a standing ovation from the audience and some kids were standing on their seats, cheering.

The 4H drama club got up and performed a play that they had been working on for a while. It was about three young men who had fallen in love with three young women, but they were dating in secret. Many students helped to make up the scenery; the piano, the train, the curtain, and even the trees were made of kids. Andrew Hoffman, eighth grader at SJHS and member of the drama club, said, “You have to be willing to let yourself go and just go all out. You have to be dedicated enough to go to all the auditions, and besides, it’s fun to get to know the other people in the play.” Pierce Wilson, another eighth grader at SJHS and drama club member, said, “It’s fun to do all the acting, and if your class doesn’t goof off to much, then it’s even more fun. Most people liked it, and it was a fun show to put on as well as watch.”

Mrs. Koriane Maughan’s dance class also performed at the assembly. They danced to the song “Thriller”, and all of the kids dressed up in zombie outfits. Mrs. Maughan, said, “Teaching dance is really fun, and it was especially fun to teach something as iconic as Thriller. I think that the kids did a great job. They really captured the zombie style.”
