On Saturday, February 23, students state-wide went to the Salt Palace in Salt Lake City for the annual archery competition to compete against each other for the winnings.  Junior high and high school students shot for the perfect score of 300.  About 15 students from Springville Junior High competed in Salt Lake.  The competitors shot for as long as 30 minutes during the all-day event and then they could hang around the Salt Palace with their friends, or go to lunch with their families.

Over 700 kids came to the competition in Salt Lake, but not all were awarded.  Only the top three teams, and top three girls and boys in each age group got prizes, which included: trophies, bows, and certificates.  Even the coaches got to try out their shooting skills!

The team did great overall in the competition!  Three SJHS students placed in the top 15 for their grade level.  Marin Rosenberg got 6th place out of all ninth graders state-wide, Brynn Patten got 4th place out of all eighth graders state-wide and 6th place out of all junior high students, and Sarah Tucker got 13th place out of all seventh graders.

“I go as their coach, and I love to watch the students shoot. I also get to know the parents a little better too,” said Mrs. Anderson, the girls P.E. teacher at SJHS.  We have been doing archery at Springville Junior High for two years.  Mrs. Anderson also said, “We did really well shooting the short distance (10M), but need to work on the longer distance (15M).  Next year we will focus a little more time on that.”  The students had a lot of fun going to the competition and anyone is welcome to go, even if they are not in P.E.  They just need to come to the practices.  Caleb Houtz, a ninth grader from SJHS who went to the competition, said, “I loved it!”  Jessie Simons, a seventh grader from SJHS who also went to the competition said, “ Everyone should do it!”
