Mrs. Diane Bird, the clothing teacher at SJHS, is doing a sewing club during Quest Time.  During this time, students are making sling bags that tie at the shoulder. According to Mrs. Bird, she started the sewing club so all the students could participate in sewing, even if they could not get the clothing class in their schedule.   Shaylee Ferran, seventh grader at SJHS, said, “I like sewing club because I like learning how to sew different things.”

According to Shaylee, shewanted to go to sewing club because she wanted to sew even more than she already does.  Most of the students in the sewing club are seventh graders, but there are a few eighth graders.  According to Mrs. Bird, she is trying to teach students to know how to do the basics of sewing, like threading the machine and measuring.

Sewing Club is a good opportunity to learn sewing techniques, like how to operate the sewing machine properly, and how to measure and cut out the fabric.
