Article: Student Futures

Submitted by tara.pina on

We all know that there are many colleges in the US. From the mostly sunny coasts of California, to the bustling streets of New York City, and of course everything else, there’s just so many options to choose from. It gets kind of hard, right? Well, a few students already have most of their future planned, their future college, future careers, almost everything.

Jack Taylor, an 8th grader at SJHS, says he likes University of Utah, because they have a good engineering program that he’d like to take when, and if, he goes there. It is expensive, so he says he’s working towards a region scholarship, that, supposedly, will pay almost all the tuition for him. Not all the students of SJHS know what their future holds, but this guy has a pretty good idea of what could happen.

Erik Kallaker, another 8th grader at SJHS, says that BYU is a college that he would look at. Not only because it was the only one that came to his mind, but it’s academics and sports programs are very nice and he’d enjoy being close to home. After college, he says he’d like to be an engineer, because fixing things has always had his interest. He’s been fixing and building things for a while now and wouldn't mind it being his career. Although, if he can’t get that kind of job, he says he wouldn't mind staying at home with the kids.

Jared Hernandez, an 8th grade boy that goes to SJHS, says that BYU is also a good idea. Their music program is what he’s leaning towards, after all, he does play a few instruments, like the guitar and the clarinet, so you can kind of see why. He says it has some good academics, but he’s still looking at the music part of BYU. After college, of course, he says he’d like to be a musician. He says that he is one of the only people in his family that can play a musical instrument, and it’s kind of special to him. He says, sometimes, he can just play guitar to feel better, when he’s not feeling good.

Looks like BYU is a favorite option for these students at SJHS, but who knows what’ll happen when graduation is right around the corner. People change and times change, too. So, do you think you’ll be going to the college you want now? Or will it be totally different in the future?
