Candlelight Concert at Springville Junior High

On December fifth, two of the choirs at Springville Junior High School had a Candlelight Concert.  The two choirs are mostly made up of eighth and ninth-grade students.  They have been practicing since the middle of October for this concert.  In the concert, they sang a lot of  Christmas songs, and also one song that is traditional at  Springville Junior High, called, “One Candle.”  There were two ninth-grade soloists for that song.  The students who were the soloists for “One Candle” were Kelsie Taylor and Bailey Bird.  Students in the choir can tryout in front of the class to receive a solo.  Whoever gets the most votes gets the solo.  According to Bailey Bird, the concert went really well, and everyone sounded good.  His favorite part of being in a concert is being nervous, because it’s scary and fun at the same time.

The concert was dedicated to our attendance secretary Mrs. Bales.  Mrs. Walker said, “She is such a great secretary in our school!  She is so organized, and she is just a wonderful person!”  Pat Bartlett was also honored, she is very involved in music and theater in Springville, and also used to be a  storyteller at the Springville Library.  Mrs. Walker, the choir teacher at SJHS, said, “The concert went really well.  Everyone was prepared and enthusiastic, and they sang beautifully.  There was a nice feeling of Christmas there.”

Now that this concert is over, the choirs are going on tour to elementary schools in the area performing the same concert.  Good luck Mastersingers, Knightengales, and Journeymen!
