A Chance For Love

A new school year is a great time to start anew with a lot of things: friends, grades, and maybe even love... While it may be hard to find that special someone during the day, SJHS holds great dances so that you are not left without any opportunities.

The first dance, the Hello Dance, was held on September 4th. Students gathered early and waited for the doors to be opened. Finally at approximately 7:00 the students were let in. This year’s dances are different than last year’s like many aspects of the school year, because of the new building. Instead of being held in the boy’s gym as previous dances were, this dance was held in the cafetorium.

The dance started off with upbeat songs that put everyone in the mood. Students all over were jumping up and down and singing along to the lyrics of their favorites. The teens also gathered in a circle to watch exceptionally talented dancers.  As the night progressed some slow songs came on and students paired off as they “slow-danced”.

Not only students attended, teachers also did. These teachers were chaperones. According to Ms. McBride, an English teacher, teachers chaperone to make sure students do not get “too crazy”.  Mrs. Gleave, a math teacher, really enjoys chaperoning. She said, “It's a blast!  It's fun to see students with their friends and having fun.  We don't always get to see that in our classrooms.”

All in all, the dance was a hit. Benton Aegerter, a ninth grader, said, “It was great because I got to hang out with my friends.”

Mrs. Gleave said, “It looked like students had a great time!”
