Mrs. Distefano is the eighth grade counselor for SJHS. She has been such a help to eighth grade students.

According to Mrs. Distefano it is rewarding to be a counselor, and it is fun to work with so many students. It is also different everyday.  Mrs. Distefano said she became a counselor “to make a difference for kids.” Mrs. Distefano has been a counselor for eleven years. She has also been working for Springville Junior High for all eleven years. “There is so much to do that I feel that I can’t get everything done,” said Mrs. Distefano of her frustrations about being a counselor. The thing Mrs. Distefano likes most about being a counselor is “working one on one with students” and helping them plan for their future.

“I think Mrs. Distefano is an amazing counselor and a great friend. She works very hard. She is a good problem solver. Most of all she sincerely cares about people,” said Mrs. Linton, the seventh grade counselor for Springville Junior High School. Mrs. Linton and Mrs. Distefano have worked together for six years- ever since Mrs. Linton started working as a counselor at SJHS.

“Mrs. Distefano is a wonderful counselor who works really hard on behalf of her students. She cares about their academic success, as well as their social and emotional well being. She is fun to work with too,” said Mrs. Droz, the ninth grade counselor for Springville Junior High School, who has worked with Mrs. Distefano for five years.

According to Lindsey Batty, an eighth grade student at SJHS, Mrs. Distefano is very good at helping students, and she is always there to talk to.  Lindsey said she always feels better after talking to Mrs. Distefano “because if you are sad she can always make you laugh.”

Kaden Haynie, another eighth grade student at SJHS, said, “She is really cool because she gives me candy.” He also enjoys talking to Mrs. Distefano.

Bryan Espinoza, an eighth grader, likes talking to Mrs. Distefano about what he is doing in school.

Harley Caldwell, a student  at SJHS, said that Mrs. Distefano “is a great helper.”

Abby Boyden, a student at SJHS, likes that Mrs. Distefano “is always there to talk to.”

Bryan, Harley, and Abby all agree that talking to her makes them feel better, and they feel like they can tell her anything.
