Disc Golf in PE

PE classes throw it all out there with disc golf.  Springville Junior High PE students got a chance to play disc golf during the month of April.  According to Mr. Parker, the boys PE teacher at SJHS, he thinks it’s a new fun experience for the kids.  Disk golf is coed.  Mrs. Anderson, the girls PE teacher, and Mr. Parker switch half of the kids at a time. While Mrs. Anderson teaches kids archery, Mr. Parker gets to teach the kids disc golf. Kids really enjoy disc golf, Rebekah Grigg, a seventh grader at SJHS, said, “Disc golf is difficult, but fun!”

Each kid has their own strategies for disc golf. According to Dallin Nelson, also a seventh grader, disc golf is all in the wrist.  Disc golf consists of baskets that you're trying to throw your disc into.  Students have to throw from a certain line, then you count how many throws it takes to get the disc into the basket.  There are two different types of discs used for disc golf: a putter and a driver.  The driver is a great disc for distance while the putter is great for short distance.  According to Anthony O’Banion, a seventh grader at SJHS, he likes the driver the best.

Disc golf is a good way to get active, there is a disc golf course over at the Arts Park for kids who might have an extra interest.  According to Rebekah Grigg, she would like disc golf more if she was better at it.  Practice makes perfect, Mr. Parker said, “You should try it, practice makes better.”
