Do One Thing

If you have not noticed already, there are maybe 200 black signs around the school, that have big white letters that spell out, “Do One Thing.” Lots of people see this piece of paper as a sign that is just hung around the halls. But a huge percentage of students look at it and think, today will be better than yesterday. It is not that hard to find one of these signs. They are in classrooms, in the halls, and on bulletin boards.

“I think that the theme is effective. It helps students remember that they have a duty to their school community,” said Aubrey Stewart, a ninth grader who attends to SJHS.

“I see a phrase that brings us together as a school. It feels like everyone has one thing in common, and that’s the urge to do right,” said Jackie Durfey, a eighth grader at the SJHS.

There is also another important sign that hangs around the school. One that made a huge impact on the SJHS community last year. It was so important, that it is painted on the wall above the ninth grade lockers. It says boldly, Be An Ally.

“I believe if we all work together, and do one thing we can be the best possible.I think of all the times that I see people stand up for one another, and all of the inspiring assemblies,” said Aubrey Stewart.

“Whenever I hear Be An Ally, I think that today is a day to help people,” said McCade Dixon, an eighth grader.

“I have stood up for people who get bullied. The sign has helped me to remember that,” said Aubrey Stewart.

Next time you walk down the halls, or go sit in a classroom, or see someone getting bullied Be An Ally, because you only need to Do One Thing.
