On Monday, November 2, 2015, in the SJHS cafetorium, we had our October Super Knight assembly.  There was a boy and a girl for each grade.  According to Mr. Rowley, the assistant principal, there will be an assembly every two months instead of every month.  Each assembly will feature the Super Knights of the past two months.  The Super Knight award is given to people who are outstanding citizens, according to Alicia Britt, an eighth grader.

The seventh grade Super Knights were Naomi Ogles, Wesley Mangum, Jane Wilson, and Kade Raspenson.  The eighth grade Super Knights were Abi Macias, Sam Daybell, Mckenna Patterson, and Jair Vasquez.  The ninth grade Super Knights were Jenavieve Barson, Adam Krieger, Sheridan Barton, and Matthew Rawle.  The Super Knights get to go to Boondocks at the end of the year.

The Super Knight award is unique to our school.  According to Wesley Mangum, a seventh grade Super Knight, the award motivates people to be better.  Parker Stewart, an eighth grader, said, “I try to earn it, and everyone else should as well.”

Mckenna Patterson, an eighth grader Super Knight, said, “It gives students a boost to do their best.”  According to Alicia Britt, her favorite part of the Super Knight assembly was when the teachers were giving compliments to the students.

This year, at SJHS, there is a new award called the Chivalry Award.  According to Kelby Jeppson, an eighth grader who received the award, you have to go above what you are supposed to do in class.  It is a way for more students to be represented, according to Bethany Stewart, an eighth grader.  Those who got the award were represented at the assembly. Mr. Rowley said, “It’s important to honor more of our awesome students, because we have so many of them.”

As part of the Super Knights assembly, the choir sang a couple songs.  According to Parker Stewart, they sang the national anthem and an arrangement of “Down to the River” by Mack Wilberg.

The Super Knight assembly was combined with the HOPE Squad assembly this month.  Alicia Britt said, “I liked the HOPE Squad part… because I know that I can talk to someone if I ever need to.”
