Fun with FFA

Future Farmers of America, FFA is a class where students get to learn all about animal, plant and food science. They get to go on really cool field trips. They get to go to dairy farms, Snow College, a turkey processing plant, and the Utah State Fair.If you love animals and want to grow up and work with animals FFA is a great place to start. You learn all about agriculture. You get to see where the food you eat comes from.

Alexa Whitlock, a girl in FFA, says her favorite part of FFA is “raising my piggy.” If you want to raise an animal but not wake up early raise a pig. You can feed your pig after school.

Emily Robinson, a ninth grade girl in FFA, is raising a lamb. She says they have to get up a 6:30 AM to go down to the high school and feed the lambs. Her favorite part of FFA is that they get to go on field trips.

Stone Schouten, a boy in FFA, is not raising a lamb or a pig. He is raising bees. He said he has to wear a suit before going in to take care of the bees. Stone said in FFA you get to do fun projects along with the field trips, and you do not have to raise an animal. Students can just be in FFA because you want to learn about agriculture. Jordan Pruitt,  a girl in FFA, is not raising an animal but sometimes they have to get up early to go on the field trips. She says, “My favorite part of FFA is going on the field trips.”

Mrs. Thomas, the teacher of FFA, says, “FFA is the largest youth leadership organization in the nation.” Mrs. Thomas has been working with animals her entire life. She grew up on a cattle ranch. She raised steers and lambs. She also competed in rodeos. Mrs. Thomas says, “I love riding horses and showing animals in stock shows.”

So if you love animals and want to raise them agricultural science is the class for you.
