Halloween in Biology Class

Submitted by jennifer.dunn on

On Tuesday, November 11, 2014, Mr. Hatfield, a science teacher at SJHS, prepared homemade root beer for all his class periods.  Although originally scheduled for Halloween the No Tardy Party would not allow Mr. Hatfield to make root beer for all his classes, so he postponed.

Kaden Jepperson, a student in Mr. Hatfield’s biology class, said the gathering was, “fun. We got to talk with our friends and watch a movie.”  The movie watched was Disney’s The Rookie (2002.)

The root beer was handmade by Mr. Hatfield.  He mixed several ingredients, including root beer extract, sugar, and plain water.  After mixing thoroughly, the concoction had to sit several minutes with dry ice in it which added the fizzing carbonation we usually see in soda beverages.  It also cooled the root beer.  The result was a cold and sweet beverage the students got to drink.

Mr. Hatfield said, ”Students seemed to have a good time with the root beer activity.  The students had a chance to relax from Halloween and spend some time catching up on school work if needed.”

All in all, students agree it was a good break from work, and a great way to celebrate Halloween, despite the setback.
