The History of World Civilizations

Mr. Bentley, Mr. Booth, and Mr. Hansen are all World Civilization teachers at SJHS. The World Civilization classes are made up of ninth graders and are the next level of history after U.S. history classes that are taken in eighth grade. Mr. Booth has been teaching band for 17 years, and has been teaching World Civ. for 15 of those 17 years. Mr. Hansen and Mr. Bentley, other history teachers at SJHS, have been teaching World Civ. for much longer and really enjoy the subject.

Mr. Bentley said, “I’ve been teaching at Springville Junior High for 25 years. In World Civ., we start with the physical features of a region and the impact they may have on the human’s development and settlement patterns. Much of our focus is on how various countries interact with one another.” Mr. Bentley and Mr. Booth both really enjoy teaching the ninth-grade students.

The students in the three different World Civilization classes learn from different learning styles, but are all taught efficiently. Danny Salazar, a ninth grader at SJHS, said, “Mr. Booth is very excellent and makes learning fun. Mr. Booth has soul and knows his stuff.” Kimber Hicken, another ninth grader at SJHS, said, “We got to learn about Europe in Mr. Hansen’s class, and we also got to watch Robin Hood.” Many ninth graders agree that they like the fun things they do in that class. Chase Kimball, a ninth grade student in Mr. Booth’s class, said, “Mr. Booth is funny and gets stuff done at the same time. He treats all of the students equally and has fun while teaching.”
