iPads in Science Class

Submitted by jennifer.dunn on

At the beginning of the school year, SJHS received new Apple iPads for use in science class.  This is a new and interesting way to learn, although not many students have had a chance to use them yet.

The reason the school got the iPads was to “integrate technology into the curriculum,” said Mr. Dahl, a seventh and eighth grade science teacher.   Mr. Dahl is also in charge of the iPads.

The iPads are new and interesting devices that provide a hands on experience.  Some of the things that Mr. Dahl’s classes have done on the iPads include building atoms andmolecules and looking in depth at the structures of a cell.

Because the iPads are interactive, it helps some kids learn better.  Cole Bowers, an eighth grade student in Mr. Dahl’s class, says that the iPads are “really fun to use.  [They are] good to get to know the new technology.”

Mr. Dahl says that he thinks the iPads benefit the classroom, because there is easy internet access so students don’t have to walk to the computer lab.  Another benefit the iPads bring is that there are a lot of good science related apps that include a NOVA Elements app which allows kids to learn about the Periodic Table of Elements, and build the atoms to those elements.

Ipads have very useful academic characteristics and can benefit the classroom greatly.
