One of the many opportunities offered here at Springville Junior High is journalism class. Students can choose to take the journalism class in eighth and ninth grade. It is a great way to get your work published and improve your writing. Sadie Mangum, a journalism student, said, “You never get that many chances to get your writing published, so taking a class that is centered around getting your work published is awesome!”

The class is taught by Ms. Miley, who also teaches Reading for Enjoyment and seventh grade English. “Ms. Miley is the bomb!” said Chloe Wilson, a journalism student who had Ms. Miley for English last year.  In addition to teaching the journalism class, Ms. Miley also edits the school newspaper and maintains the School News section of the school website.  According to Mr. Van Ausdal, SJHS’s principal,  Ms. Miley and all of the Journalism students are very appreciated for their hard work on the newspaper.

“I like writing because you can express your feelings in a story,” said Abi Maccabee, a journalism student. Also, Samantha Sorensen, another journalism student, said, “It gives me a chance to learn about school events and let my imagination flow.” All of the journalism students think that Journalism is an excellent class, and that it provides great opportunities, and it is tons of fun!
