Mr. Krebs Spotlight

Here at SJHS, we have a wonderful math teacher named Mr. Krebs. He has been teaching for over thirty-three years! Mr. Krebs started teaching in the fall of 1980. He used to work in building construction, and as an electrician, and aerospace technician among other careers.

“I like the challenge of teaching math. It is satisfying to me to teach students math and see the light in their eyes when they understand how to get the solutions to questions,” said Mr. Krebs.

Mr. Krebs grew up in North Logan, Utah.  It was a small town back then, and most of his neighbors were related to him. He had lots of aunts and uncles and cousins.  Mr. Krebs’ father was a dairy farmer. He has five brothers and two sisters. He learned how to work hard, be honest, and be someone who was good for his word. He had a Huckleberry Finn childhood, where he enjoyed hunting, fishing, hiking in the mountains, and just being outside. Sometimes he would saddle up a horse and go for a ride in the mountains, or take the motorcycle and be gone for hours, that is, when he had free time.

Mr. Krebs’ dad was his hero, he was larger than life to him. He was a tough character and demanded a lot of the kids. He worked right alongside of them and taught them a lot about the farm and life in general. According to Mr. Krebs, his dad was one of the smartest people he knew. He could answer just about any question he could come up with. Even as he got older, he would give his dad a call if he had a question on a particular project and he could usually help him with the solution. Most of his friends growing up were his cousins. Mr. Krebs’ mother was one of the best people he ever knew. She took care of the house and also worked outside on the farm when needed. She taught them correct values and ran the household when his dad was away. Raising eight children, six of them boys, was quite a challenge for her.

Alexia Gornichec, one of Mr. Krebs’ students said, “Mr. Krebs is really nice. I like being able to work with the other kids in my class.”

We are so grateful to have Mr. Krebs teaching here and hope he decides to stay a very long time.
