Mrs. Koriane  Maughans’ ninth-grade English classes recently performed a Greek play for their classmates. According to Mrs. Maughan, her classes were reading Homer’s Odyssey and learning about Greek mythology, so they acted it out. Mrs. Maughan said, “We ate nectar and ambrosia (the food and drink of the gods), and they had a good time watching everyone. Each group had props, dressed up, and really performed their plays well

Two students in Mrs. Maughan’s English class are Katie Biesinger and Kaleni Neiufi ninth-graders at SJHS. Both of them enjoyed doing the play. Katie said, “It was lots of fun, we got to make it our own way and put our own twists into it.” According to Mrs. Maughan, some things that her classes learned about were things like the time period, Greek mythology, various gods and goddesses, and heroic epics. Kaleni also mentioned that they learned a lot about the different beliefs the Greek had.Learning about the Greek culture helped the students realize how the Greeks’ language related to English.
