Have you met one of our teachers Mrs. Maughan? If not, you should. Mrs. Maughan is an English teacher at SJHS. She has been teaching here for six years! Mrs. Maughan said, that English has always been a subject she has liked. It was easy and fun for her in school, and she loves to read! When she was in college she was getting her English degree to become a lawyer, but then realized teaching would be way more fun!

Mrs. Maughan’s favorite thing about teaching is the students. She said, “The kids are the best part of my job no matter what subject I teach. I like laughing with my students every day.” She thinks it is fun to think of new ways to teach concepts that people might think are “boring”.Her students really enjoy her class. Madison Velarde, a ninth grader here at SJHS, said, “I love her!” Taylor Christensen another ninth grade student, said that she is very fun and energetic. He also likes “Life lesson Friday” because Mrs. Maughan gives very good advice.

Mrs. Maughan has always liked being active! Playing night games and kick ball are really fun for her, and she also loves to dance! Something you might not know about her is she auditioned for So You Think You Can Dance! Mrs. Maughan has one brother, Kyle, who is fourteen years older than her. Another fun fact, Mrs. Maughan was adopted which is why she and her brother are so far apart in age. She is married to her husband Russell and has two kids, Macie who is four, and Kasen who is one.

Ms. Dunn, an English teacher at SJHS, has been working with Mrs. Maughan for three years. They have worked together the whole time Ms. Dunn has been a teacher at Springville Jr. High. They are good friends, and when the school goes to Lagoon at the end of the year they like to ride on the rides together. “She’s always happy and upbeat. I can always count on her to be positive,” said Ms. Dunn. She likes working with Mrs. Maughan, and said she is very friendly and cares a lot about her students.

Mrs. Maughan is an awesome teacher and we are all glad she teaches here!
