We have a new baseball loving history teacher at Springville Junior High School, and her name is Mrs. Shepherd. Mrs. Shepherd started here at the beginning of this school year. She teaches seventh and eighth grade history. Hopefully you will be able to better know her through this article.

According to Mrs. Shepherd, she chose teaching as a career because during high school she would tutor kids. She realized she really enjoyed tutoring  and helping them. She said, “My favorite part of teaching is showing students how exciting history can be. When I was in junior high, I didn't mind history class, but it was not my favorite subject like it is now. My goal as a history teacher is to make history class my students favorite class to come to.”

Mrs. Shepherd likes history because you get to learn about the lives of people who lived in all the different events of the past. She also enjoys learning how people’s ways of life and opinions have changed. When asked what her favorite era of history was she said, “My favorite era of history is definitely Word War II. I would have loved to live in the 40s. I love learning about WWII. It is definitely my favorite war to study. But I also love learning about the culture of the world that existed during the 40s. I love the lifestyles, the morals, the dancing and the way they dressed. How can you not love how all the guys used to wear hats and a suit to every baseball game they went to?”

Students seem to like Mrs. Shepherd as well as she likes history. Brayden Parker, an eighth grade boy in her US history class, said, “She’s nice and cool about what we do.”“She makes class fun,”said Mikiya Olsen, an eighth grader in her US history class. Mikiya and Brayden both said that the states and capitals are the  favorite thing they have learned. As well as students, her fellow staff members like her too. Mr. Shields, another US History teacher said,  “I like how she is willing to listen and learn.” He also mentioned, “ I can tell she really cares about her students.”All in all, Mrs. Shepherd is an amazing  new addition to the history department! Everyone is excited to work with this new teacher.
