New School Year-New Student CouncilPublished by tiffanie.miley on Mon, 09/26/2011 - 15:44
This 2011-12 school year things are changing at Springville Junior High School. There are new banners in the hallways to show our school pride, Monday advisory period during Quest Time to improve student’s grades, early morning enrichment for tardies, the school mural, and more varied choices for classes like dance, math common core, pods, and sculpture. Another new change at SJHS is instead of being required to take service learning as an elective, the student council meets two times a week during Quest Time to think of ways to improve the school, and plan fun activities for students to participate in.
SJHS’s student council for first semester is Jamie Devenish, president, and Moroni Black, Annee Lange, Amanda Ripley, vice-presidents. The second semester student council is Stacy Stapel, president, Ethan Knowlton, Lindsay Johnson, and Payton Acor, vice-presidents along with Mrs. Murray as their advisor. According to Amanda Ripley, ninth grader at SJHS, the student council plans to make our lunch room cleaner by having Lunch Wars. First and second lunch will compete against each other. The winning lunch will receive a prize of some sort.
Mr. Trent Mikesell, assistant principal at SJHS, said, “I’m very happy to be involved in the student council. I always wished I could have been the teacher in charge and this gives me a way to be a part of it! Make sure as students you listen to the announcements for some of the fun events planned this year.” The student council also gets to help decorate the gym for dances, give morning announcements and be more involved with assemblies. Annee Lange, ninth grader at SJHS, said, “Student council is really fun! It makes me feel more part of the school and everyone is so hilarious and fun to be around!”
