New Year, New School, New Principal

Submitted by jennifer.dunn on

Every year there are changes in schools- some are big and some are small. This year Mr. McGuire is the new principal for Springville Junior High School. He started this year, 2015-2016. According to Mr. McGuire, he became our principal after Mr. VanAusdal moved to the District offices.

Many teachers are enjoying how he does things. Ms. Pina, an English teacher, said, “He doesn’t do things the old fashioned way, but the way that works the best.” Additionally, according to Mr. Rowley, an assistant principal, Mr. McGuire shares the same goals as the rest of the staff. These goals are that they care for the students, they are focused on the students’ education, and they “want Springville Junior High school to be the best in the world.”

People can be different, but they can also be the same. Mr. McGuire is the same as Mr. VanAusdal, the former principal, in many ways. According to Mr. Rowley, they both care about the students. He also said that they are both focused on the students’ education and they want SJHS to be the best school.

Many students and teachers enjoy having Mr. McGuire as the principal. According to Mrs. Caras, a biology teacher, he is very willing to do things and is very helpful. According to Mrs. Murdock, the finance secretary, he is creating a warm and welcome school for students, parents and staff. Mrs. Murdock also said that he is genuinely concerned for each of the students’ education.

Outside of school Mr. McGuire has a lot of fun (Yes! teachers have a life outside of school). According to Mr.McGuire, one of his favorite hobbies is fishing. His favorite place to go fishing is Flaming Gorge. Mr. McGuire has four kids; he has two sons and two daughters. His entire family loves sports and they spend a lot of time at the ballpark. Before he became our principal, Mr. McGuire taught history and Spanish, and was vice principal at Payson High School.

Mr. McGuire has been is education for 17 years. Nine of those years he has spent it in administration. Now he gets to spend the next part of his career with us. Mr. McGuire said, “School should be fun,” and this year will be great with Mr. McGuire.
