Orchestra students are getting accustomed to a new teacher, Mr Taylor,  this 2016-17 year. Here are some explanations from the orchestra students themselves.

According to Emma Biesinger, a cellist in 8th grade, there are four Orchestra classes: 1st period is beginner class (those who have no orchestra experience), 2nd period is the seventh grade Master Class, 3rd period is for the 9th grade class, and 4th period is for the 8th graders.

Jake Peterson, is a seventh grader in the Orchestra 1 Master Class. He plays the violin. He tells us that the reason he is doing orchestra this year is because he already had the instrument and he wanted to play it. Janelle Mammen is an eighth grader violinist who has been playing since she was in fourth grade. She says that Orchestra is different with the new teacher, Mr Taylor. But everyone is adjusting. Dr. Tsugawa, the teacher last year, moved on to teach at BYU.

“It’s a challenge,” Janelle says, “ But challenges are good. I like challenges!”

Josie Rey, an eighth grader and viola player, says that Orchestra has not changed much at all. She thinks it’s because Mr Taylor was Dr. Tsugawa’s student.

Scout Benson, a eighth grade cellist, says that Dr. Tsugawa was more strict. Yet, she thinks that this new year is harder. “It’s harder, but I wouldn’t say that it’s hard,” she says.

Next let’s hear what Ashlee Bingham, a bass player, says about orchestra. She says the reason she joined orchestra was because Mapleton came to her elementary school and let them try out their instruments and she liked the bass because it was bigger than her.

Orchestra is a fun elective for all grades. As you can see the orchestra is a fun place to be.
