Out with the Old and in with the New

This new SJHS was built this year as a upgraded version to the old SJHS which was built in 1957 (although there was a older SJHS that was built in 1912). The two schools have some similarities, as well as some differences. Sarah Tucker, a ninth grader, said “The new school is jazzy and pretty! [but] the old school was older and more ancient!”

The new school has many things about it that are better than the old school, such as the water fountains being colder and the bathrooms being much better designed than in the old school. Every classroom in the school has windows and control panels that allow teachers to control the projector and computer of their room. Having the cafetorium really saves space and time for assemblies.“The new school is an absolutely beautiful building,” said Mr. Hatfield, a science teacher. The large number of Chromebooks allow teachers to run their classes more effectively. Although the new school does have its faults, Mr. Hatfield says that is to be expected from any new building you are moving into. What really would have made this school great according to Sarah Tucker is “a bouncy house, and a slide, and a pool, and hot tub!”

“This school is great but the old school had a certain nostalgia about it,” said Ms. Dunn the journalism teacher. The old school had large ninth grade lockers and larger lockers in the PE changing room. The auditorium was also nice according to Mr. Hatfield.

The schools have many differences and also a lot in common, but they are both SJHS!
