September Super Knight Assembly

Submitted by tiffanie.miley on

On Thursday, September 28th, Springville Junior High School held their first assembly to honor the school’s Super Knights. Super Knights are students that are chosen because they are hard workers, friendly to others, try their best, and are all-around good students. They try to be examples of the school’s DRSL’s (Desired Results for Student Learning): effective communicators, responsible citizens, and successful learners. Teachers nominate these students. Only six students are nominated every month: a girl and a boy from each grade. The seventh grade Super Knights are Chloe Wimmer and Jake Distefano. The eighth grade Super Knights are Kielle Popham and Stone Harding. And the ninth grade Super Knights are Leah Daybell and Noah Andelin.

Most of the Super Knights said that they were surprised about being selected. Chloe Wimmer, a seventh-grade Super Knight, said that she was surprised because “I’m not very responsible and I didn’t think I’d be that kind of person...but at the same time, I was excited.” Stone Harding, an 8th grade Super Knight, said that he thought that he received the award “because I follow the rules and help other people.” Kielle Popham, another 8th grade Super Knight, said, “You don’t have to have straight A’s to be a Super Knight. Just try your best.” She thought it was cool to get the award because only six people get it every month. Leah Daybell, a ninth grade Super Knight, said,”I’m happy that my teachers liked me enough to nominate me.” Jake Distefano said that he was excited because he got a trophy.

Teachers shared lots of positive comments about all of the students. Here are a few:

Chloe Wimmer:

  • “Chloe is always kind to other students. We had a new student and she was the first one to talk to her and make her feel welcome.”
  • “Chloe is also fun and positive. She gets excited about whatever we are doing in class.”
  • “Chloe is a happy, enthusiastic student! She is kind to everyone and always smiling!”

Jake Distefano:

  • “Jacob brings a ton of energy to Aerobics every day. He's ready quickly and is always willing to help me set up stations and put equipment away. His classmates can always look to him to be a good example.”
  • “Jake is a great kid. I have often found Jake helping others with their work. Jake is always respectful and happy. I enjoy having him in my class.”

Kielle Popham:

  • “Kielle is a very responsible and considerate student. She helps others in class and is willing to go out of her way to do so. She always turns in her assignments on time and stays on-task in class. She is a friend to everyone and a joy to have in class.”
  • “Kielle is hardworking. She has a lot of friends in class and easily balances social life and getting her work done.”
  • “Kielle is awesome! I appreciate how hard she works in class. She is also very considerate of others. Kielle is a very humble person and will probably be embarrassed at the attention. Thank you Kielle for your awesomeness!”

Stone Harding:

  • “Stone is amazing! He is very respectful. He always gets his work done, always raises his hand to answer. He has a lot of friends in the class and helps them to get their work done as well.”
  • “Stone is a hard worker and is always on task. He strives for excellence and never settles for less than his best work.”

Leah Daybell:

  • “Leah Daybell is a great student. I appreciate her positive attitude in class.
  • "Leah is also a talented composer and will probably be getting paid to write music for TV commercials, etcetera, someday in the future. Leah rocks!!”
  • “I have Leah Daybell in my class. She’s awesome! She has a fun personality and is willing to share her experiences and insights with others. She is kind to others and willing to be helpful in any way for anyone.”
  • “I love having Leah in my class! She is always on time, prepared and on task- and therefore is a good example of responsibility. I can always count on Leah to volunteer when no one else will, and when I ask for her input it is always very insightful. Leah is a wonderful, kind, bright student.”

Mr. Penrod, an assistant principal at SJHS, said,”I enjoyed the Super Knight assembly because we were able to honor several students because of the great choices they make at SJHS. So many students do and say so many good things at our school. It is great to be able to honor students for being fantastic people and citizens. Students need to be complimented for all the neat things they do and say.”

Some performers were selected to be in the assembly, too. Aubrey Fitts sang the song “Bound to You”, the dance class danced to “Thriller”, and Jailena Santiago also sang a solo. “I thought the singers were all really good,“ said Leah. “I liked the dance class. It was pretty cool to see them do the Thriller dance,” said Kielle.

“I loved the performances. It is exciting when students share their talents. We have all been given "gifts" in our lives. It is really fun when we can share these talents and gifts with others.” said Mr. Penrod.  Overall, everyone seemed really excited about the assembly. SJHS is excited for future Super Knights and assemblies.
