“I just grabbed a bunch of cans and put them in the bag, because I feel good donating, but l never know where to donate to,” said Holly Hill, an eighth grader at SJHS. “It's a good way to serve and help people in need, especially at this time of year during the holiday season.  An added bonus is that the winning classes receive a pizza party,” said Mr.Beebe, the Spanish and Latinos in Actions teacher at SJHS.  All the food went to Community Action Food Bank in Provo.

Latinos in Action, a class at SJHS, was in charge of the food drive. Mr.Beebe said, “About two weeks ago Mrs. Walker from the counseling department came and asked me if the Latinos in Action class could help with a food drive.  She thought it would be a good idea to have the school work together to collect food for those in need.  She found the Community Action website, signed us up, and here we are.”

Their responsibilities include, splitting up every day during seventh period and going to each class to pick up the food that students  donated.  They bring the food back to Mr.Beebe’s room where they counted it and kept a chart of how much each class had collected.  Then they took it to Mrs. Walker's room  to store until the administrators took it to the food bank. They also had a couple students make an announcement at the end of each day letting everyone know which classes were winning the competition with the most food brought. Mrs.Walker said she was expecting 300 pounds of food and we got so much more than that she was very happy and surprised.  The winners of the food drive are Mr.Bentley for ninth grade, Mrs.Bodily for eighth grade and, Mr.Taylor for seventh grade.

As a school we collected about 1,650 pounds of food for the Community Action Food Bank in Provo!
