SJHS Freshmen Join SHS Boys Soccer Team

Some ninth-grade boys from SJHS were able to try out for the Springville High School soccer team on February 25. The tryouts lasted three days, and the boys that made the final cut on the third day became part of the soccer team. The freshmen from SJHS that made the team are Josh Clegg, Peter Kucharek, Ryan Treasure, Spencer Smith, and Christopher Fitzgerald. The team has games every Tuesday and Thursday, and practices on Mondays and Wednesdays.

The boys all really enjoy playing on the soccer team and like hanging out with the older boys on the team. Ryan Treasure said, “It’s really fun being on the team and on some of the bus rides to the games, it gets kind of crazy.” Josh Clegg said, “It’s very fun and different to play against the seniors.” The soccer team has played against a few different teams including Timpanogos, Maple Mountain, Salem Hills, Mountain View, Orem, Provo, and Timpview. The soccer team is divided into two different groups: varsity and junior varsity. The varsity players, usually juniors and seniors, engage the opposing team first. Once their game is finished, the J.V. players, usually sophomores and freshmen, take on the other team’s J.V. players. Spencer Smith and Christopher Fitzgerald both agree that the soccer team is pretty good and that they’ve improved a lot since the beginning.

So far, the soccer team has played pretty well and recently had a 3-0 win over Timpview. Peter Kucharek said, “It’s freakin’ awesome.”
