SJHS Goes Thoroughly Modern

Submitted by tiffanie.miley on

This year Springville Junior High goes thoroughly modern with the school musical, Thoroughly Modern Millie. Many students have already been working hard with Mrs. Walker, the director of the play, and Mrs. Gleave, the choreographer. But, more hard work goes into this than meets the average student’s eye.

Mrs. Walker, the director of the school musical and choir teacher at SJHS, said, “I felt like we had just the right types of kids for this play.” Mrs. Walker has been working at SJHS for several years now and has directed all of the plays that have taken place in those years.

Though Mrs. Walker has a big pull of the play, students also play a big role. Sally Wells, a ninth-grade girl in the play, said that this play is going to be a “smashing success.” This comes with the students’ hard work. This year’s leading roles consist of Maddy Brenchley as Millie Dillmont, Andrew Hoffman as Jimmy Smith, Alexandria Sorensen as Mrs. Meers, Quinn Gleave as Trevor Graden, Sally Wells as Bun Foo, Pierce Wilson as Ching Ho, Cierra Snap as Miss Dorothy, and Betsy Vega as Ms. Flannery.

With the big dance numbers, unique characters, and a heart-throbbing story, it is sure to catch everyone’s eye. Thoroughly Modern Millie is scheduled to show October 25-27, and November 2 and 3. Until then, students, staff, and parents will be working hard to put on a worthwhile show. Alexandria Sorensen said that it’s “going to be a lot of fun.”
