Students at Springville Junior High School attended the State Archery Competition in Salt Lake City during the month of February. The competition was held February 11,2012 in a grand hall at the Salt Palace. According to Mrs.Kelly Anderson, P.E. teacher at SJHS, this was the first year SJHS was able to attend a state competition for archery. “Over 200 students statewide went, 17 from our school, and it was killer fun!” said Mrs.Anderson.

Five Springville Junior High students placed this year. From the middle male division, Caleb Houtz, eighth-grade student, placed ninth. Tanner Endicott, seventh-grade student, placed thirteenth. Nathan Standley, seventh-grade student, placed seventeenth. From the girls middle division, Brynn Patten, seventh-grade student, placed fifth. From the high school division, Melanie Anderson,ninth-grade student, placed ninth.

Caleb said, “I love doing archery. I’d rather shoot than watch others shoot.” In archery the higher the score you get the better the placement. Brynn said, “ I was so surprised when I got eight and nines on my score. Especially since I only started this past December.”

Archery is a new sport to SJHS and it looks like students are already intrigued.
