At Springville Junior High School, there is a new seventh-grade English teacher, Ms. McBride. According to Ms. McBride, she didn’t want to be a teacher while she was growing up, but she has always loved reading. Before Ms. McBride came to SJHS, she was an editor, an advisor who set up internships for students that wanted to become lawyers, and a piano teacher. She became interested in teaching while she was working as an editor. She then realized that she really liked helping people become better writers.

According to Ms. McBride, she likes spending all day with her students. “My favorite part of teaching is helping students learn things they didn’t know before and get better at things they already know how to do,” said Ms. McBride.

According to Ms. Dunn, a seventh-grade English teacher, she loves to work with Ms. McBride. According to Ms. Dunn, Ms. McBride is fun and is very helpful at planning things. “We work together a lot to plan lessons and ideas for our seventh-grade classes.” Ms. Dunn, Ms. Neeley, and Ms. Miley, seventh-grade English teachers, all agreed that having new teachers brings in new ideas each year. In Ms. Dunn’s opinion,  it’s fun to see the different ideas each teacher comes up with.

Ms. Neeley and Ms. Miley both agree they like working with Ms. McBride and that she’s easy to be around. “She has quickly become a part of our seventh-grade team,” said Ms. Miley, “Ms. McBride has been a great addition to our school.”

According to Ms. Miley, so far the seventh-grade English teachers have done a unit on reading strategies and another unit on personal narrative. “Most of the time we teach similar things, but not exactly the same,” said Ms. Miley, “The basics are the same, but we each have our own teaching style.”

According to Brayden Howell, a seventh grader in Ms. McBride’s class, they learn how to write a good story and read a little better. Brayden likes how nice she is, and how she gives them little breaks between classes so they can talk to their friends during that break.

Lauryn Davis, another seventh grader in Ms. McBride’s class, said, “She is my favorite teacher! She is so nice, but strict. It is a good in between.” Lauryn likes how Ms. McBride teaches because she teaches in a fun way. She doesn’t just tell them how to do it, she teaches using fun games. “She makes it easier to learn,” said Lauryn.

Not only does Ms. McBride teach, she also loves to sing, play the guitar, watch movies, go camping and go swimming. Ms. McBride was born and raised in Gilbert, Arizona.
