Springville Junior High Goes Super

Submitted by tiffanie.miley on

Do other schools know what it takes to be super? Springville Junior High does! At SJHS, adults that that work at the school elect a monthly Super Knight. A Super Knight is someone who strives to be a Responsible Citizen, Effective Communicator, and Successful Learner and follow the monthly virtue. November’s virtue was knowledge, and December’s is tolerance. There are a total of six super knights in the end, one boy and one girl from each grade. The Super Knights are recognized in an assembly at the end of the month, rewarded with trophies, and get to go on a field trip with all the other Super Knights at the end of the school year.  November’s Super Knights were seventh graders Sariah Rencer and Carter Call, eighth graders Zoe Dalley and Jeffrey Taylor, and ninth graders Marin Rosenberg and Dylan Park.

Mrs. Morrell, a history teacher at SJHS, said, “Typically Super Knights are willing. That is a big one. They are willing to participate, willing to do their work, willing to volunteer, willing to listen, willing to work with others. They have a positive attitude. Not all Super Knights have straight A's. But what makes a student a Super Knight is the positive attitude and the determination to try to succeed.” Some Super Knights that have been elected had some very similar opinions of what a Super Knight is to Mrs. Morrell’s. According to Chloe Wimmer, September’s Super Knight, to be a Super Knight is to be hardworking, polite, smile, and be kind to new students.

SJHS teachers have lots of great things to say about this month’s Super Knights.  One of Sariah Rencher’s teachers said, “Sariah is a dream student. She is always so kind and polite to me, and to others. She always thank you at the end of each class, or whenever I help her with something. Sariah always puts her best effort into all of her work-she never takes a shortcut to get done quickly, but takes her time to do her best work. She is kind and knowledgeable and is wonderful about helping those around her. I love having Sariah in my class!”  Another faculty member said, “Sariah Rencher is on the HOPE Squad, and I can really see why she was nominated by her peers as someone who is caring and easy to talk to. She has so much empathy and respect for her classmates, and she treats everyone around her with kindness.”

One of Carter Call’s teachers said, “Carter is one of the nicest kids I've met this year.  He always works hard on his assignments and participates in class.  But what stands out to me most is how kind he is too all of the kids in our class.  He goes out of his way to be helpful and respectful.  The world would be a happier place if everyone were as nice as him.”  Another teacher said, “Carter, quietly, is a great example of a Super Knight. He is honest, a great example, goes beyond what is expected of him, helps others, and is a good citizen.”

One of Zoe Dalley’s teachers said, "Zoe is such a talented student--she excels at anything she sets her mind to, and rather than just doing enough to get by, she always gives 110%.  She is also sensitive and kind to those around her.  She makes sure that the other students in class are included.  She doesn't just do this because she thinks she should--she is genuinely interested in others and cares about them and what they have to say.”  Another teacher said, “Zoe is an absolute delight to have in class. She is the model example of a student who is so respectful, kind, and always has such a positive attitude.  She is so good to show her gratitude and comes to class every day with the biggest, brightest smile.  You just can't help being around her for a few moments without absolutely loving her.  Her positive attitude is contagious.”

One of Jeffrey Taylor’s teachers said, “Jeffrey is an excellent young man. I appreciate his hard work in class. He leads by example. I also appreciate his positive attitude.  He is very respectful and is always willing to help out.”  Another student said, “Jeffrey is a great example of what every student should do and become. He listens, completes his work, polite and respectful, and goes beyond what is expected of him.”

One of Marin Rosenberg’s teachers said, “Marin is a great addition to my classroom!  She is always happy and fun to be around.  She is exemplary of a Super Knight because she is kind to others, always does her work, and is a positive influence.  Marin is talented academically and athletically.  She often shows up the boys in soccer intramurals!”  Another teacher said, “If you could write a list of traits needed to be an exemplary individual, Marin would possess them all.  She is fun, aware, helpful, intelligent, dedicated and tolerant.  This girl is definitely one to watch!  She will accomplish great things in her life.”

One of Dylan Park’s teachers said, “This fine young man has figured out how to balance being the cool guy with being an outstanding student.  Not an easy feat!  He is prepared to learn and participate every day and will be a phenomenal leader throughout his life.”  Another one of his teachers said, “Dylan is very hard working.  He does amazing work and has tremendous concentration and ability.  He is a pleasure to teach and is a model citizen.”

SJHS is very proud of their Super Knights!
