Student Led Conferences

Student-led Conferences were held Thursday, April 24 from 3:30-8:30 in students’ third period classroom!  Student-led Conferences are a great way to get your parents caught up on what is going on in school.

“The purpose of student-led conferences is to allow students to reflect on how they have done in school this year.  Students identify their strengths and areas they need to improve in,” said Ms. Neeley, an English teacher at SJHS.  “Students should take ownership over their work and progress, and student-led conferences encourage students to do that.”

Ms. Miley, an assistant principal at SJHS, said that students benefit from these conferences by articulating what they have learned, how they have grown and where they are heading next.

“It is important for students to attend the student-led conferences because it is a good opportunity to discuss strengths and weaknesses with their parents.  This will help them see what areas they need to build on as well as which areas they shine in and can focus on developing on a deeper level,” said Mrs. Shepherd, a history teacher at SJHS.

“I think that student-led conferences are a great opportunity to get a glimpse of what school is really like,” said Ms. McBride, an English teacher at SJHS, “Students spend a majority of their time at school, and they should be proud of the good work they do.  Student-led conferences give parents a chance to see the good work students have been doing.  Sometimes it’s hard to have good conversations with them at home because of everything that is going on, so this is a chance to slow down and really talk.”
