Students Demonstrate Recipes at SJHS

In the Foods class at Springville Junior High, the students are going to be doing food demonstrations. Food demonstrations are a time where students present a choice of  food or appetizer they want to share with the class. As the students make their appetizer in front of the class they have to say what they are doing step-by-step while making the food and try to make it their best! They also need to talk about what food groups are in the food and what is healthy and what is not good in the food.

When students demonstrating, they give the class what they have made for the day.  Students can also make recipe cards for the class if they want to get some extra credit. Mrs Luke, a Foods teacher at SJHS, said, “Food demonstrations are a great way for students to share recipes that they like to make or that their family makes with the rest of the class. If done right, it is a great way for students to try and share new recipes.” She also said, “I think it is a great way to see what skills students have learned in my class assess what they know about the nutrition of the food. If done right, demonstrations are loads of fun.”

Josh Root, an eighth grader at SJHS, said, “You get to eat what you made and also get to give students a sample of it.” He also said, “We get to learn new recipes that other student have made.” For the most of the time the students say it is fun, but it’s scary to get up in front of the whole class and share.  Josh Kovach, an eighth grader at SJHS, said, “It is good and fun to be able to make food.” Brent Williams, another eighth grader at SJHS, said, “It is fun because we get to cook and give the students what we have made.”
