Students Rewarded for Being on Time

Students at SJHS are working hard to get to class on time. Here at Springville Junior High, students are rewarded for their good behavior of getting no tardies for one term. The students with no tardies recently celebrated on April 9th. Jillian Boyer, an eighth grader at SJHS who attended the party, said, “It’s a great way to reward kids for no tardies. We went and saw a movie and got to buy concessions while we were there.” The students saw the movie “Escape from Planet Earth,” and most students seemed to enjoy it.

Students work hard to get to go with their friends to the party. According to Kate Galbraith, an eighth grader at SJHS, even though you work hard, getting to go is a privilege. Kate also feels being on time to class is very important because it can affect your grades, you could miss class work, and most of all, you’re showing disrespect to your teachers. “It’s a matter of courtesy more than anything. If you are late somewhere you are basically telling someone that you are more important than they are,” said Mr. Mikesell, Dean of Students.

“The No Tardy Party influences kids to get no tardies. It makes the beginning of class a lot more organized, and it makes the school a better place,” Jillian said. “It influences me to be a better student, get good grades, and no tardies or sluffs.” The students without tardies are recognized each term with the No Tardy Party. The school chooses a different movie to see each time, and the students at SJHS like the idea of getting recognized for their good behavior. According to Gray Burton, a ninth grader at SJHS, it makes him want to be on time and avoid tardies, but it’s also a good, fun way to hang out with friends!
