Summer Camps in School

Submitted by tiffanie.miley on

At Springville Junior High School, as kids look forward to summer break, they are planning out their own summer camps.  This assignment will continue until the last day of school. The summer assignment is just a fun assignment to do after the students have finished testing.  Mrs. Bass, an English teacher at SJHS, said, “The Summer Camp is a fun, hands-on unit that allows students to use their creativity as they show what they know about thematic-based learning.”  Kids can review what they have learned this year while still having fun and expressing themselves.

Some of the camps kids have come up with are Running Camp, Cooking Camp,  Tiki Camp and so much more.  According to Mrs. Bass, she has seen everything from “Camp Dark Ages” to “Camp Nose in a Book.”  To complete this project, students need to have a fully colored flag, a camp song, a schedule, a menu, a map, and a brochure.  When everyone has completed their camp, they will present it in front of the other eighth grade class.  Tess Fisher, an eighth grader at SJHS, said, “I’m excited to present my camp in front of others.”  According to Michael Monney, another eighth grader at SJHS, he is excited to sing his camp song to others.

The eight graders ae excited to unleash their imagination on this assignment.  According to Mrs. Bass, in the years that she has had her students do the summer camp unit, she has not yet run into a student who didn't want to work on it.
