Super Knights Go To a Super Place

EXTRA! EXTRA! The Springville Junior High Super Knights went to Boondocks! On March 22, Mr. Mikesell, Mrs. Caras, and Ms. Hamilton took all of the Super Knights from the 2012-13 school year to Boondocks in Draper. Mr. Mikesell, the SJHS dean of students, said, “Taking the Super Knights to Boondocks is to reward them for all they do.” Boondocks is a place where students could take part in many activities such as go-karts, mini golf, laser tag, bumper boats, and games in the arcade. Cater Call, a seventh-grade Super Knight, said, “Boondocks is a fun center with go-karts, a restaurant, and an XD theater. It was very fun.”

The Super Knights are students, selected by teachers, who have been seen showing the monthly value. Marin Rosenberg, a ninth-grade Super Knight, said, “A Super Knight is someone who has knightly traits and acts well in class and school. In my case, my knightly trait was knowledge, which is kind of ironic considering how bad I am at math.” The Super Knight award exists to encourage all students to be super citizens and reward the students who already are.  Austen Moon, another ninth-grade Super Knight, said, “The purpose is to award students for being virtuous, and to show others what they can do to receive the award as well.”

Throughout the school year we focus on six monthly virtues. According to Ms. Hamilton, a teacher here at SJHS, the different virtues this year were: responsible, courageous, knowledgeable, tolerant, respectful, generous, trustworthy, and persistent.  Ms. Hamilton also said, “It is an honor to be chosen as a Super Knight. You can only be selected as a Super Knight once  in the three years you are at Springville Junior High. The top boy and girl in each grade are chosen to represent their grade level as Super Knights.”  In the end the field trip was very successful. Marin Rosenberg said, “It was epic.”
