Thanksgiving Pies in SJHS Foods class

Submitted by tiffanie.miley on

The SJHS foods class recently made thanksgiving pies to get into the Thanksgiving spirit. They all worked together to make apple or pumpkin pies. The class spent November 21st learning about how to make the pies, and then the next day they mixed the ingredients together and baked them.  Even though it was Thanksgiving, the class listened to Christmas music.

Emilee Christensen, ninth grader at SJHS, said, “We colored pictures of turkeys and then we all got to make pies. Everyone in the group got to do something, and I couldn’t wait to taste them.” Mrs. Natalie Luke, foods teacher at SJHS, said, “I really wanted the kids to get into the Thanksgiving spirit and so I let them color turkeys in and then decided to have them bake Thanksgiving pies. I think that it was a good way to end the week before fall break.” Mrs. Kara Harrington, student teacher at SJHS, said, “Last year I observed Mrs. Luke’s foods class, and I was happy to be able to teach them how to make pies this year. I think that the students had fun making the pies. I was able to inspire them by showing some pictures of professionally made decorated pie crusts.”

On November 22nd, the class finished up the pies, and ate them.
