If you love to write, or are looking for a different type of writing to do, then journalism is the class for you!  Journalism is the class where we write the very articles that you are reading right now.

Ms. Dunn, an English teacher at SJHS, also teaches journalism.  “For many years, Ms. Miley taught journalism,” Ms. Dunn said. “At the end of last year, she asked me if I would like to teach journalism this year.  It sounded like something I would enjoy, and I got the privilege of teaching it.”

Emori Brown, an eighth grader at SJHS, said, “I’ve always loved to write.  For the most part, I’ve always written fiction, so I wanted to improve writing non-fiction pieces like articles.  Taking this class has been very helpful to me because I plan on becoming a journalist someday.”

According to Daniela Melendez, an eighth grader at SJHS, she thought it would be a fun new experience.  She loves the interviewing process of writing an article.

Chloe Potter, a ninth grader at SJHS, said, “I wanted to improve my writing skills.  I also like getting to research into different subjects that interest me.”

Shayra Riches, an eighth grader at SJHS, said, “I like learning more about what is going on at school, and learning different writing techniques.”

Rachel Harker, an eighth grader at SJHS, said, “I like to write and meet new people, so I took the class. Not to mention that the classmates are hilarious.”

According to Amanda Smith, a ninth grader at SJHS, she took the class so she could interview people.  “It helps me learn people skills.”

Cami Ward, a ninth grader at SJHS, said, “I thought it would be fun interviewing friends and classmates.”

Everyone in the class agrees that Ms. Dunn is really fun and is one of the coolest teachers at SJHS, and she is one of the biggest reasons that journalism is so fun.  She said that one of her favorite parts of teaching journalism is watching the students grow and progress throughout the semester.  She will be teaching journalism for the foreseeable future.Journalism is the right class for you if you like writing and meeting a lot of new people.  It is not your typical writing class, and that is what makes it so much fun!
