The Knights Play Golf

he Springville Junior High School Knights have many successful sports programs, from football, to track, to tennis.  But what many people do not know is that SJHS also has a winning golf team.

This school year, the team has been to many meets around the district, and even won third place at their last tournament on September 27th.  Coached by Mr. Dallin Krebs, the team headed down to Gladstan Golf course in Payson.  They competed against Mapleton, Spanish Fork, Diamond Fork, Mount Nebo, and Payson Junior Highs.

The team practices every Tuesday after school.  Then at 12:00 noon every Monday, eight members of the team of 12 go to a Utah county golf course to compete.  The golf courses include Gladstan, Payson, Spanish Oaks, and Hobble Creek.  The four best scores are counted as the team score.  The next week, the other four members of the team get to compete too.  Golfers each play nine holes during the regular season.

After the regular season, all six schools compete in the district championship.  The district championship is held at the Spanish Oaks Golf Course.  Each team member plays 18 holes.  The school that has the best overall score is the district champion team.

The SJHS Golf team has won the championship many times.  The team really enjoys what they do.  Mr. Krebs said, “It is a fun and challenging sport to participate in.  You get to be in the outdoors and enjoy some beautiful scenery and be with other golfers.”  Team member Nic Cooper agreed, saying that golf was fun and challenging also.
