Knights Run Their Final Race

On Tuesday, October 12, 2010, the cross country team at Springville Junior High ran their final race. Just to compete and have fun, the team members gathered at Memorial Park with all the other schools in our district-Springville, Mapleton, Diamond Fork, Payson, and Mount Nebo Junior High Schools to compete, and just have fun.

Led by Ms. Carrie Parker, the aerobics, jogging, and body conditioning teacher at the junior high, the runners have trained ever since the start of the school year. They ran a race of 1.5 miles, and according to some of the runners on the team, the race went pretty well. Damon Harris, ninth grader at the junior high, said, “The final race went well, and we had a lot of strong runners, so overall we had a very good race.”

Damon’s words are true, because the boys in our school placed 2nd, and the girls placed 4th.  Some of the races were very close, and the one Mason Merrill, eighth grader at the junior high, ran was one of them. “It went good, just I’m disappointed about the end. The guy who beat me beat me by one or two seconds.” But, Mason, Damon, and eighth grader Peggy Sorenson, did place 3rd, 8th, and 4th in their races against all the other cross country runners in the district.

Peggy said, “I like it [cross country] because I get to be with my friends and I love to run. Cross country is just amazing.”
