On Tuesday, October 26th, students and teachers at Springville Junior High School dressed up for Switch Day. Switch Day is when teachers and students switch places; the teachers dressed as students and vise versa. There are five dress up days for Red Ribbon Week, SJHS started out Red Ribbon Week with Crazy Hair Day, then Sports Day, Switch Day, Retro Day, and last but not least, Freestyle Day.

Red Ribbon Week is a week to raise awareness about not doing drugs. Seth Daybell, student council vice president and ninth grader at SJHS, said, “Drugs make you do stupid things when it is obvious that you wouldn’t have made those decisions if you were not on drugs. Red Ribbon Week helps because it reminds students that they shouldn’t be doing drugs.”

Many teachers and students dressed up for Switch Day. Taylor Bennett, an eighth-grade student who dressed up for Switch Day, said, “I liked Switch Day because it was fun, I got to express my teacherness inside.” Not only did students have a fun time with Switch Day, teachers might’ve even had a better time. Mr. Trent Mikesell, an English and creative writing teacher at SJHS, said, “For me, it’s the most fun day to dress up because students are so shocked to see a teacher wearing the clothes that they wear. I get the biggest bang for my buck dressing up that day.”

So like Seth Daybell said, “Why not dress up if you have the opportunity?”  And lots of kids took that opportunity on Switch Day, and throughout the week. So three cheers for Red Ribbon Week!
