Each year, eight 9th grade students are selected to be on the student council. Student council members represent the school and help to set up and run various programs. All application materials are due March 26th. Please see the attachment for more information.
Students interested in running for the 2015-16 student council should attend the informational meeting during Quest Time on Monday, March 16th.
Track season is here! All interested students should attend an informational meeting on March 9th after school in the multipurpose room. All paperwork needs to be turned in by March 13th. Practice starts on March 16th. Please join us!
Congratulations to eighth grader Mallory Murdoch! She was honored with the Springville Mayor Recognition Award for the month of January. She was recognized by Mayor Wilford Clyde alongside high school students Danny Salazar and Rebecca Morrison.

Aside from the regular classes, SJHS has advanced classes called honors classes. They have honors math, english, and biology at SJHS. Honors classes are for students who are willing to go at a faster pace and work hard. To get into Honors Biology, taught by Mr. Hatfield, you have to be one year ahead in math, and have a desire to learn more about biology. “We go into a lot more detail and cover a lot more content,” said Mr. Hatfield. According to Mr. Hatfield, he likes teaching honors classes because he can challenge students more.
Auditions were held on January 7-9, 2015 by Ms. Utrera, the choir teacher at SJHS, and Mrs. Gleave, a math teacher at SJHS. Students of any grade were invited to show their talent and strive for a place on the cast of SJHS’s reproduction of “The Music Man Jr,” which is a shortened and simplified version of “The Music Man,” a musical by Meredith Wilson and Franklin Lacey.
SJHS has a lot of good and nice students this 2014 school year. They have lots of athletic and smart people as well.
Jake Randolph is a ninth grade student at SJHS. He is a member of the SJHS wrestling team. According to Jake his favorite class is Earth Systems because it is fun. He loves spending time with his friends and listening to rap music.
Lexi Childs is a ninth grade student at SJHS. According to Lexi she like the new school and all the nice teachers. She loves to hang with friends and act crazy with them while they listen to pop and rap music.
Mrs. Caras has been teaching for nineteen years. She has been teaching at SJHS for fifteen of those years. She teaches ninth grade Earth Science and students love her.
“Mrs. Caras is so fun and spunky. I’m never bored in her class,” said Katie Peterson, a ninth grader in Mrs. Caras’s class.
Mrs. Caras also has many hobbies. She loves to watch football and sometimes baseball on TV. “I love sports - 49ers & SF Giants are my favorite teams. I love to read when I have time, watch my kids/grandkids play soccer, hockey, or whatever they're interested in,” said Mrs. Caras.
Mrs. Wimmer is the attendant secretary at SJHS. She helps students stay under the limit of tardies they can have in a term. Whenever you get a Mandatory Intervention slip, it is from her. She records all of the Quest Time tickets in her office.
“Since I love kids, and I know they are just trying to figure things out, it is easy to work with them,” said Mrs. Wimmer.
Mrs. Wimmer enjoys working with the ladies in the office, and is happy that everyone is willing to help.
On February 25th, all students will be released from school at 11:15 for a staff development day in the afternoon.
All SJHS ninth graders will visit Springville High School on the 25th.
