Penny wars is an international competition usually between the schools grades. Schools all over the world do this to raise money for charities, natural disasters, and anything they feel are in need of. This year at SJHS we have decided to use our fundraising money for the people in Puerto Rico.

Article: Basketball!!

Submitted by tara.pina on Mon, 11/20/2017 - 13:12

The first basketball hoops were actually just peach baskets, a basket used to carry peaches, and the first backboards were made of wire.  Basketball is a game played between two teams of five in which goals are scored by throwing a ball through a netted hoop fixed at each end of the court.  Many people play Basketball.

Article: National Anthem sung by Master Singers “Oh, say can you see,” Mrs. Utrera’s choir sing at the basketball game!

Submitted by tara.pina on Mon, 11/20/2017 - 13:03

As some of you probably know, the Master Singers get the opportunity to go and sing about a BYU men’s basketball game every year. Mrs. Utrera, the choir teacher, says “This started 4 years ago when BYU sent out an email asking schools to sign up to sing. It was perfect timing because I had decided that Master Singers would learn the National Anthem that year and have it ready to use if we ever needed it. That year was the 200th anniversary of the National Anthem so it was the first thing we learned that year. We were ready and able when the invitation came to sign up and get a slot.  We have been privileged to be invited back each year since then. It has become a great tradition.”

Article: Recent Super Knights

Submitted by tara.pina on Mon, 11/20/2017 - 13:02

Recently SJHS had a assembly where thirteen students were congratulated on their behavior. SJHS calls that being a Super Knight. Being a super knight is being amazing and going out of your way to help other people. You are recognized for being a good student and helping others when you don’t have to. Every single one of the thirteen students helped and did extra for someone else many, many, times. Which is why they are super knights. Every month two students are chosen from each grade one boy and girl. We have a assembly every two months to congratulate them. This term was different from others because there were thirteen super knights. There was a tie between Nash Scott and Jack Taylor.

Article: The fight between Books and Movies

Submitted by tara.pina on Mon, 11/20/2017 - 13:01

In the epic battle of reading and watching TV the students of Springville Junior High, more often than not, choose to read instead of watching the big screen!  Ever since the TV has come into our world people of every nationality have had to choose where their loyalty lies.  While the TV can easily be chosen as the favorite, some people just can’t choose between the two.  For many years now parents have mostly approved of reading which may have more sway in the kids opinion of books and movies than they realized.

Article: Which Side?

Submitted by tara.pina on Mon, 11/20/2017 - 12:54

Batman, Superman, Cat-Woman, Wonderwoman, Poison Ivy, Harley Quinn, Joker. Some of the main fictional characters owned by DC comics, we adore them. Iron man, Thor, Captain America, Winter Soldier, Black Widow, Loki, Ant-man, Spiderman, Deadpool, Scarlet Witch, Black Panther, The Hulk, Hawk Eye, Quick Silver, Captain Marvel, the She-Hulk etc.. Characters from a different and major comic company known as Marvel. All of these heroes and heroines are loved by people, especially teens and those who have a quirk. Those who are a part of many different fandoms like DC and Marvel, but the real question is, which side do you prefer?

The End of Football Season

Submitted by tara.pina on Mon, 11/20/2017 - 12:52

So, football season is gone. Not like college or NFL, but for the Springville youth program, the field is empty now. No more cheerleaders cheering, no players playing, no refs reffing, it’s nothing. We did have a great season, though. Nick Welsch led Springville Red through the season undefeated, and moved on to defeat Ryan Strong’s Springville Navy in 2017’s 8th grade Super Bowl.

Now Springville White, they didn’t do so good. But at the same time, they didn’t do so bad either. Brad Mertz led Springville White and ended the season with a 4 and 4 record. Although they didn’t end with a super good record, they fought hard. Maybe just as hard as the other Springville teams.
