Color Fest 2017

Submitted by tara.pina on Thu, 04/20/2017 - 10:59

If you drove down south March 25 or 26, you may of hit crazy traffic, and didn't know what was causing all the commotion. Well all the traffic was because of an event that happens once a year, the color festival. Many students at Springville Junior High went to the color festival with friends and family. The color festival occurs at the Sri Sri Radha Krishna Temple, in Spanish Fork Utah.

Many people know this celebration as the color festival even though it’s real name is The Holli Festival or Celebration.

Mrs. Riggs

Submitted by tara.pina on Thu, 04/20/2017 - 10:58

Mrs. Riggs is an english and creative writing teacher at Springville Junior High. She is loved by many students and teachers.

Mrs. Riggs didn't want to always be a teacher, her childhood dream job was to be a writer or a fly girl, a.k.a. A dancer.  She became a teacher in 2012, but started at Springville Junior three years ago. She became a teacher because she loves literature. But besides teaching, Mrs. Riggs, is some what flexible. She can kick her foot up and touch the back of her head!! Mrs. Riggs has won only a single free throwing contest in elementary school.

Mock Trial

Submitted by tara.pina on Thu, 04/20/2017 - 10:57

Here at SJHS we have some very unique clubs. One of the most interesting opportunities is to participate in Mock Trial. Students involved with Mock Trial get to go to other schools and have a pretend trial. Luke Carter, who was Mock Trial last year, said they learned what a real trial is like. Alma Burrows said he learned more about real trials.

“The best part is getting to take the day off school and hanging out with my friends.” said Luke. He said that even though it can be fun it is really hard.  “It would be fun, but it is a lot of work.”

Ask Seka: Singin’ In The Rain

Submitted by tara.pina on Thu, 04/20/2017 - 10:55

Going into the the SJHS production of Singin’ In The Rain I really wasn’t expecting anything special. The production started 15 minutes late, so I was extremely surprised when I got to experience a stunningly beautiful play. I was very surprised, this being a small J.R. High production, that I genuinely enjoyed the play. I thought the set was simple but very nice, and the lighting was excellent. The actor knew their lines and had a lot of emotion. I was thoroughly impressed.

Houston, We’ve Got Copycats

Ever wanted to go to space? Too bad. To go up, you got to have a lot of experience (yes, it is rocket science) and it costs a lot of money. But how about reenacting going to space? That takes a significantly less amount of money and training, and you can blow up the ship without causing a national disappointment.

The secret life of Mrs. Porter

Submitted by tara.pina on Thu, 04/20/2017 - 10:28

Mrs. Porter is a history teacher here at Springville Jr, she taught at the old school for 1 year, and has taught for the 3 years that this new school has been running. Mrs. Porter hasn’t always been Mrs. Porter, before she got married she was Mrs. Brennan and still gets called that from time to time. Mrs. Porter has been married for 2 years now to Seth Porter; they have no kids, but depending on how her students have behaved that day would like to have 5. She spends her free time watching Netflix, mountain biking and playing with her dog.

Ask Seka #3

Submitted by tara.pina on Thu, 04/20/2017 - 10:27

Q. Is the universe finite or infinite? If we were able to travel to the outer edges of the universe, what would we find? Perhaps we would run smack dab into another universe, but how would we know? Would the other universe somehow come in a different color, operate with a different set of rules, or smell slightly like almonds? How would we know? I’m imagining a large sign that says, “You have reached the end of Universe A! Welcome to Universe B where proximity is not an issue!” How much is infinity plus one?

A. Only God knows tbh

Iayla Searle

Submitted by tara.pina on Thu, 04/20/2017 - 10:23

Iayla is an 8th grader here at SJHS, and is a goofy girl. Her middle name is Florence, and Math makes her bored, no surprise. If she had a power, it would be to see dead people. She admires people that aren’t afraid to be weird in public, and she envies me, “because you have beautiful hair,” she said.

Right On Track!

Submitted by tara.pina on Thu, 04/20/2017 - 10:21

Many students at Springville Junior High are participating in the school track and field team.  All students from 7th-9th grade are allowed to take part in this after school activity, and are able to take up to 4 events, with exceptions. Track meets are held on Fridays at high schools in Nebo School District.

The next meet they have is a home meet at Springville high school against Payson and Mapleton. Most kids are very excited and confident for this one based on the meet from last week. The track team went to Payson and Springville, the Knights, beat the Grizzlies.
